Ma
shaa Allah, the atmosphere just outside around the stadium was really
something to take note of.....!!! They didn’t have tickets to get in, neither
was there any giant screen installed outside the stadium... But that
didn’t cause any lack in the enthusiasm of these wonderful local people
of Mirpur.... Watching them having a happy hangout along with their
families under the colorfully decorated streetlights,
finding out some new friends, gossiping and having a good time with
them made the evening really refreshing to me Alhamdulillah. My home
team, Bangladesh had already lost the first match of the day against
Australia. It was the last match for both the teams to take at least one
win from this Super 10 round of this tournament. No wonder, Australia
won it convincingly despite a much better show from the hosts in their
batting innings. In the next match my favorite foreign cricket team
Pakistan (Our bitterly and sweetly related departed brothers) was up
against the charged up Windies. I was sitting with my new friends on the
island of the street (blocked for vehicles, in match hours) where
peoples of the neighborhood were freely roaming and enjoying the
decorated lights and fireworks. And time to time was asking a boy
earring on a cell radio, sitting just behind me, ”What’s the score
now...!!”. At a stage W.indies were limping with 84/5 in 14 overs. The
loud sound of cheers from the gallery was still making us enchanted. ....Then started the terrible Caribbean storm with Bravo and Sammy blasting
off the next 6 overs for 82 runs....!!! Just then our heart sank a
little feeling this could be the decisive turnaround of the match. And
so it happened... ... They
continued with that momentum wrapping up Pakistan for 82 wining the
match by 84 runs..... And one indeed can say Calypso tune of power
cricket is getting back in a majestic style......
